The Nile, the Suez Canal and the railways all had a part to play in their success. At the World's Fairs, including the one hosted in 1900, visitors were able to admire the finest Ottoman art, craft and industrial pieces while exploring the "local colour" bazaars and watching performances (Orient-inspired productions or belly dancing in the Egyptian palace).
